Four Irish counties warned as snowstorm to hit in coming days

A weather expert has issued a snowstorm warning for four Irish counties, as many continue to hope for a white Christmas.

Temperatures are remaining between 6 to 10 degrees in recent weeks, with the weather for the coming week forecast to be a combination of breezy with scattered showers along with outbreaks of sunny spells.

Last week saw snow falling in some parts of the country, though it didn’t stick, and there is still speculation as to whether more will come.

Ian Simpson of Netweather TV said: ‘The first half of December has potential to be very wet in western Britain, where rain bearing frontal systems have potential to become slow moving at times as they push against the Scandinavian blocking high.

‘Some mild and changeable Decembers come out with above average sunshine, but these are typically the ones where frontal systems move freely from west to east and are often separated by periods of bright and showery weather with polar maritime air masses.’

Elsewhere, Met Éireann have shared the forecast for the coming week, with low pressure set to dominate throughout the week, leading to unsettled weather.

The forecaster said: ‘Conditions will be mixed, with showers, persistent spells of rain and sunny spells forecast.’

Scattered showers are set to turn thundery with hailstones in Connacht and Munster on Tuesday, though Wednesday will start out a drier and brighter day for the most part.

On Wednesday night, there will be rain moving northeast towards the morning with showers following behind.

More showers will hit on Thursday, though this will mainly affect Atlantic coastal counties. Some of them will turn heavy with hail and a chance of isolated thunderstorms.

Friday will continue rather wet and windy, with scattered showers turning heavier at times.
