2026 Boston Marathon celebration jacket: a redemption story

After the disappointment of last year’s drab, “Lucid Blue” colourway (and a new stamped logo prominently featuring the race sponsor since 2023, Bank of America), the Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) returned to the basics for their lastest Boston Marathon celebration jacket. The 2026 model combines the race’s traditional royal blue and yellow in a striking design that also features a stitched logo, and in our eyes, it’s a winner.

Released Wednesday, the 2026 celebration jacket promo video is centred around the embroidered logo of the Boston Marathon’s iconic unicorn logo, which now also features the Bank of America logo, using the slogan “stitched in history.” The new jacket also features a cheeky “Catch me if you can” tagline on the sleeve. So far, the response to the design has been overwhelmingly positive–especially when compared to last year’s disaster.
“They got the memo,” one comment read.
“It’s awesome that you’re hearing us and making changes!” another fan wrote.

Last year, the jacket received heavy criticism for stepping away from their usual stitched B.A.A. logo to a printed Bank of America-centric crest on the front and back. The jacket is now available for purchase, retailing at US$120–the same price as last year. It’s currently exclusively online in the U.S.
Adidas has been making the Celebration Jacket since 1991, and it has become a must-have item for runners who make it there.

Back-to-back wins for B.A.A.
This isn’t the first wave of criticism the race has responded to. Last year, the Boston Marathon also made a triumphant comeback in the medal category, revealing a glossy, gold, embossed unicorn on a white crest cutout centrepiece, a major improvement from the 2024 medal design which was called “tacky” and “cheap.”
Internet reacts to 2025 Boston Marathon celebration jacket
In September, B.A.A. revealed a cut-off time of four minutes and 34 seconds. Out of 33,267 applicants (second-highest number of applicants in its history), 24,362 runners were accepted, leaving more than 8,900 athletes who ran under the standard without a spot.
The 130th edition of the race is set for Monday, April 20, 2026.
