The South Carolina women’s basketball team will be down one player when the team travels to face Louisville on Thursday.
Freshman guard Agot Makeer is in concussion protocol and won’t make the trip, according to a team spokesperson.
That means coach Dawn Staley will have nine healthy players available when No. 3 South Carolina (7-1) faces No 22 Louisville (7-2). The game is 7 p.m. Thursday on ESPN.
Makeer is averaging 5.9 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. She’s also averaging 16 minutes a game, the sixth-most on the team and highest among USC’s two freshmen.
This is the second time this season South Carolina, which already has a relatively thin roster, has deal with the injury bug. The Gamecocks lost Maddy McDaniel for the second game of the year due to injury (and then lost her again after a three-game suspension).
There have been just three games this season where all 10 healthy players on South Carolina’s roster were available for the entirety of the game.
With Makeer out, bench guards like McDaniel and freshman Ayla McDowell will likely see more playing time against Louisville. South Carolina’s trio of starting guards will also probably see more time on the court.
