Why taking care of dynamic CeeDee Lamb, George Pickens isn’t a problem for Cowboys

FRISCO — The Cowboys have two dynamic receivers in CeeDee Lamb and George Pickens.

There’s a perception that taking care of both players is problematic.

Not with the Cowboys.

“I think the easy answer to that is you got to throw the ball to the guy that’s open,” offensive coordinator Klayton Adams said Monday. “But it’s not always the exact answer. I think that sometimes you’re designing a pass concept for the coverage that you’re anticipating in the leverage that you think that guy can break. And they use a different coverage. So I do think ultimately the best thing to do in all those situations, this is where we’re going with the ball versus this coverage. This is where we’re going with the ball against this coverage and then again, if you’re getting cover zero or something different or normal leverage, man coverage that’s who wins.”

Lamb and Pickens have been complementary to each other during the season.

Pickens is second in the NFL with 1,142 receiving yards and is just one of three players with over 1,000 receiving yards this season. Pickens is also fourth in the league with eight touchdown catches and seventh with 73 catches.

Lamb, considered one of the top receivers in the league, has 51 catches for 744 yards with three touchdowns. He missed three games this season with an ankle injury, suffered Week 3 at Chicago, where he played just seven snaps.

Lamb entered the Thanksgiving Day matchup coming off a three-drop game in a victory over the Eagles. But against the Chiefs, Lamb caught seven passes for 112 yards with a touchdown. The 112 yards tied a season-high.

“It feels good, man. Just overall, getting back on the right track,” Lamb said. “I feel like it’s a ‘To my winning,’ thing. As a receiver, I feel like everything is confidence-based. I wouldn’t say I lost any confidence; it was more so just getting in my own head. And you can’t really do that in this position, especially with as many games as we have coming up, a short week, different situations. You can’t let what happened last game, good or bad, grip-cycle into what’s going to happen in this one.”
