“Today, with a heart full of gratitude, I am announcing my retirement from a career I’ve always dreamed of,” Gallinari said in his post. “A career built through hard work, sacrifice, victories, defeats, teammates who became brothers, guidance from my coaches, and, of course, family and friends that were with me every step of the way.
“It’s been an incredible journey filled with countless memories that I will carry with me for the rest of my life. To those who believed in me, to all those who supported me, and to those who shared every moment with me – thank you, from the bottom of my heart. I’m beyond excited for the next chapter!,” he added.
Gallinari, a native of Sant’Angelo Lodigiano, Italy, was selected by the New York Knicks with the sixth overall pick in the 2008 NBA Draft. Known for his scoring ability and three-point range, he played his first two-plus seasons for the Knicks before being traded to the Denver Nuggets as part of a package in exchange for superstar Carmelo Anthony.
Gallinari spent six-plus seasons with the Nuggets from 2011-17 before also playing for the Los Angeles Clippers, Oklahoma City Thunder and Atlanta Hawks. He signed with the Boston Celtics in 2022, but never played for them as he missed the entire 2022-23 season due to an ACL injury.

He was traded by the Celtics to the Wizards in June 2023, was again traded by the Wizards to the Pistons in January 2024, and was released by the Pistons in February. He signed with Milwaukee later that month and averaged 2.8 points in 9.1 minutes in 17 games for the Bucks.
Gallinari finishes his NBA career averaging 14.9 points, 4.7 rebounds and 1.9 assists in 28.8 minutes across 777 games, including 563 starts.
