Edwin Diaz could be biggest winner as reliever market starts to take shape

The offseason is shaping up well for Edwin Díaz, it would seem.

While the Mets signed Devin Williams as a potential replacement for Díaz as the closer in Queens, it’s clear they’d prefer Williams to serve as a setup man, ideally for Díaz, after Williams flamed out as a closer last season with the Yankees.

And even after that year in The Bronx, during which Williams lost the closer role twice, he still got a lucrative deal from the Mets.

“I wasn’t sure he’d get that much,’’ one agent said of the three-year, $51 million contract Williams agreed to with the crosstown Mets. “I don’t think it’s crazy, but it’s more than I’d have thought.’’
