Prince Edward Island has a new chief provincial court judge.
Krista MacKay has been appointed head of the P.E.I. court, and begins her five-year term effective immediately, the province said Tuesday in a news release.
MacKay replaces Judge Jeff Lantz, who has completed his term in the role.
“Judge MacKay has been an integral part of our judicial system since her appointment to the bench in 2020,” Justice and Public Safety Minister Bloyce Thompson is quoted as saying in the release.
“I know that her voice of reason, fairness, and dedication to community will be reflected in her new position.”
Thompson also thanked Lantz for his service, noting P.E.I. has made “great strides in modernizing our systems and increasing access to justice across the province, which were all made possible under the leadership of Judge Lantz.”
