A number of Middle Tennessee school districts have announced delays or closed school on Dec. 5 due to a forecast for snow and freezing rain starting Dec. 4 into the overnight hours.
The potential for a wintry mix, was especially prominent for areas along and north of Interstate 40, according to the National Weather Service with snow and light ice accumulations possible.
“All school districts along and north of I-40 will need to monitor this,” National Weather Service meteorologist Scott Unger said on Dec. 4. “While accumulations west of the Plateau are expected to be (a) half inch of snow or less, a few spots might experience minor travel impacts for the Friday morning commute.”
Metro Nashville Public Schools work with the Office of Emergency Management to monitor both road and weather conditions with regular updates from the National Weather Service, school district spokesperson Sean Braisted said. Families can review inclement weather plans and procedures on mnps.org/weather.
