A rollercoaster of weather is set for Dublin once again as we wake to wet ground – but that will quickly change.

As the day goes on we’re looking at plenty of sunshine for the capital but that won’t last for long. We’ll be heading back into rain with temperatures maxing out at around 10C.

More of the wet weather will continue into the nighttime, but the track will rise once again as clear spells develop. Temperatures will drop to around 3C but it’s going to be a bit windy.

Met Eireann said: “Showers at first this morning before becoming mainly dry with sunny spells developing and just the odd shower. Cloud will build in the afternoon with outbreaks of rain and drizzle following later. Highest temperatures of 8 to 10 degrees with moderate light to moderate southwesterly winds.

“Cloudy and wet for a time tonight. The rain will clear northeastwards later as with clear spells following. Lowest temperatures of 3 to 5 degrees in mostly light to moderate southwesterly winds, fresh at times.”

As for Thursday, it’s going to trick us into thinking it’s nice and dry and sunny. But that will change, turning to shows as we move into the evening.

Temperatures will once again max out at around 10C during the day, before dropping as low as 1C overnight. Nighttime will also bring plenty of rain, with a brief respite that won’t last long.

Met Eireann continued: “Mostly dry with sunny spells tomorrow. Cloud will build towards the evening with some showers or longer spells of rain following. Highest temperatures of 7 to 10 degrees in light to moderate southwesterly winds.

“Showers or longer spells of rain at first on Thursday night, mainly in the north. It will turn mostly dry for a time before rain moves in over the south and west by morning. Lowest temperatures of 1 to 6 degrees, coolest in the north and east. Southerly winds will increase moderate to fresh through the night.”

As for the weekend and into next week – more rain, rain and even some rain. But temperatures will pick up slightly by around 2C during the day.

Friday will be the worst of all, with some gales on the coasts and strong winds inland. There will be loads of rain, and that will continue into the nighttime.

Here’s the forecast:

Friday

Turning wet and rather windy for a time with rain extending northeastwards with southeasterly winds increasing strong and gusty with gales at times on exposed coasts. Scattered showers and some sunny spells will follow from the southwest through the afternoon and evening as winds ease moderate to fresh southwesterly. Some of the showers will be heavy. Highest afternoon temperatures of 6 to 8 degrees over Ulster, ranging 8 to 12 degrees further south.

Rather cloudy with scattered showers or longer spells of rain overnight. Lowest temperatures of 5 to 9 degrees with mostly moderate southwesterly winds, freshening in the southwest later.

Saturday

Breezy with scattered showers in the morning and just limited sunny spells. In the afternoon, the showers will ease with better spells of sunshine developing. Highest temperatures generally of 9 to 11 degrees with moderate to fresh southwest to west winds

Sunday

A damp start to the day with outbreaks of rain and drizzle, clearing northeastwards before becoming largely dry with sunny spells for the afternoon. Highest temperatures of 9 to 12 degrees with moderate southeast winds veering southwest.

Next week

Current indications suggest a fair amount of dry weather on Monday with just some showers. Potentially turning rather unsettled on Tuesday.
