Friday’s football tips: Try a 7/5 corners bet as Middlesbrough battle Hull

Middlesbrough remain on course for automatic promotion from the EFL Championship but face a tricky test on the road against Hull City tonight.

The loss of boss Rob Edwards to Wolves threatened to derail Boro’s season and successor Kim Hellberg lost his first game at home to runaway leaders Coventry City.

But Middlesbrough bounced back by beating Derby County 2-1 last weekend and another victory in Hull would move them five points clear in second place.

Hull City vs Middlesbrough top betting tips

Hull City are in the thick of the fight for play-off places and a victory tonight would fire them up to third place, just two points behind Boro.

Their form has been patchy of late, with two wins and two defeats in their last four, so it’s hard to know what to expect from the Tigers.

BTTS has landed in the last five games for Middlesbrough and in four of the last five for Hull. So it’s not a big surprise to see both teams to score as short as 4/6 with most firms, although adding on over 2.5 goals boosts the odds to 6/5 at SkyBet.

Both meetings last term hit double figures for corners and we’ve seen an average of 14 in Hellberg’s first two games as Boro boss. Those stats suggest over 10.5 corners stands a good chance tonight at 7/5 with Paddy Power.

Morton vs Queen’s Park

There’s some Championship action in the SPFL tonight as well as Queen’s Park head to Greenock to take on Morton.

After losing boss Dougie Imrie to Raith Rovers, Morton needed penalties to see off League One club Peterhead in the Scottish Cup last weekend.

Experienced hand Billy Davies is taking charge on an interim basis and now has a tricky game against a Queen’s Park side who have picked up a bit of form.

The Spiders sit third bottom but have won two of their last three games in all competitions, a run that also included a battling 4-3 loss away to leaders St Johnstone.

A win tonight would leave Queen’s Park sitting just two points behind Morton so it’s a tough one to call.

The half-time draw looks decent at 6/5 with Bet365 as there’s not much between these sides in terms of quality.

I also like the 16/5 on offer at Betfred for Spiders striker Josh Fowler to score, given he has netted four times in his last three outings.

Benfica vs Sporting CP

There’s a massive clash in Portugal’s top flight tonight as Benfica and Sporting face off in what could be an explosive Lisbon derby.

Both teams are hunting down leaders Porto and a win for Benfica would move them level on points with their city rivals.

Jose Mourinho’s presence adds extra spice to the mix and his Benfica reign has been a mixed bag so far.

While results in Europe have been poor, the Special One has yet to lose a domestic game since taking the reins from Bruno Lage in September.

Sporting’s only Primeira Liga loss all season came against Porto at the end of August so this is a tough one to predict. The half-time draw looks a good option in this one too and it pays 6/5 with BetMGM.

Going for cards is probably the best option as this fixture often boils over. However, I’ve yet to see any markets so it looks like the bookies are running scared.

We could see a penalty with some rash tackles flying in and Bet365 are offering 6/1 on Benfica scoring from the spot, with the same bet paying 7/1 for Sporting.

Super singles

  • Over 10.5 corners in Hull City vs Middlesbrough 7/5 Paddy Power
  • Josh Fowler anytime scorer 16/5 Betfred
  • HT draw in Benfica vs Sporting CP 6/5 BetMGM

Long shot

  • Benfica to score a penalty 6/1 Bet365
