As if hiding presents from excitable children in their own home wasn’t hard enough Smyths Toys have issued a warning to be careful when buying them.

The popular toyshop has announced their click and collect service could ruin the magic of Christmas completely.

Orders purchased online to pick up in store are packaged in clear plastic bags.

If you decided to collect your presents with children in tow they could see the contents and ruin the Christmas morning surprise.

Worse still, they may question why their presents have come from a retail store rather than a workshop in Lapland.

A notice on the Smyths Toys website says, “Please note your Click & Collect items will be in clear packaging with contents visible.”

To avoid any unwanted questions about who makes toys and how they’re delivered perhaps take advantage of the post-bedtime opening hours.

Smyths Toys has extended its store opening hours in the lead up to Christmas, with many locations staying open until 10pm Monday to Friday.

This comes after users discovered that Amazon Alexa also has the potential to ruin Christmas morning surprises.

The smart speaker will tell anyone who asks what is inside a parcel to be delivered exactly what it contains.

However, this issue can be avoided by setting Alexa to be more discreet.

There is an easy way to prevent presents being ruined.

Simply open Alexa on your phone, click settings, choose notifications, select Amazon shopping, and uncheck the box titled “for items in delivery updates,” under the section “let Alexa say or show titles for your items you’ve ordered.”

Parents have also been warned to keep an eye out for deliveries, as some may not come in discreet packaging.
