Three Musketeers Reach Double Figures, Xavier Tops Friars on Field Trip Day

CINCINNATI – Three Musketeers reached double figures in Thursday’s 61-47 win over Providence on Field Trip Day.

The Musketeers moved to 5-3 (1-1 BIG EAST), while the Friars dropped to 6-3 (0-1 BIG EAST).

Xavier travels to Cincinnati for the Skyline Chili Crosstown Shootout on Sunday, Dec. 7 at Fifth Third Arena. Tip-off is slated for 2 p.m. with the game being aired on ESPN+ and The Varsity Network.

 

NOTABLES

  • Xavier never trailed in the game and led by as many as 15 points (30-15) with 3:08 left in the first half. Providence closed within six points (49-43) with 8:39 left in regulation. The Musketeers closed the game on a 12-4 run to pull away for the 14-point win (61-47).
  • Mariyah Noel scored a game-high 20 points on 8-for-15 shooting. She added six rebounds, three assists and two steals. The guard now has seven career double-figure scoring games and three career 20-point performances.
  • Savannah White nearly missed her third career double-double, finishing with 16 points and a team-high nine rebounds. She was 6-for-9 from the floor. The guard/forward added a team-high five assists and two blocks.
  • MacKenzie Givens finished with 10 point, six rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. She now has five career double-figure scoring games.
  • Meri Kanerva had seven rebounds, five points, four assists and two steals.
  • Xavier finished with a .442 field-goal percentage (23-for-52) and went 7-for-17 from behind the arc. The Musketeers were also 8-for-11 from the foul line.
  • Xavier won the battle on the glass, 38-34, and scored four more points off of turnovers (12-8) than the Friars. The Musketeers also held a 14-12 advantage in second-chance points and had three more bench points (7-4).
  • Providence scored four more points in the paint (32-28). Xavier scored three more fastbreak points (11-8).
  • Xavier held the Friars to a season-low .317 field-goal percentage (20-for-63). Providence was also 3-for-20 from behind the arc and 4-for-4 from the foul line.
  • Sabou Gueye posted a double-double for the Friars (16 points, 12 rebounds).
  • The 14-point win was Xavier’s largest margin of victory in a BIG EAST game since Feb. 20, 2022 (W, 73-54 at Butler).
  • The 47 points allowed is the fewest points allowed by Xavier in BIG EAST game since Jan. 31, 2023 vs Georgetown (L, 44-41).
  • Xavier had 3,773 fans in attendance for Field Trip Day, the 14th largest women’s basketball crowd in Cintas Center history.
  • Xavier snapped a six-game losing streak vs the Friars. Thursday’s win was Xavier’s first victory over Providence since Feb. 13, 2022 (W, 62-60).
  • The Musketeers move to 8-5 all-time vs the Friars at Cintas Center. The win was Xavier’s first over the Friars at Cintas Center since Dec. 31, 2020 (W, 64-50).
