Will Chris Paul Be Traded? NBA Insider Explains Scenarios After Clippers PG Sent Home

After the Los Angeles Clippers announced they will be parting ways with veteran point guard Chris Paul, many are wondering what’s next for the longtime floor general.
The Athletic’s David Aldridge detailed the likely scenarios for Paul’s future, stating that the Clippers “will probably seek to trade Paul after Dec. 15, when he can legally be moved under the collective bargaining agreement.”
However, Aldridge went on to note that other teams won’t be very motivated to give up assets to acquire Paul, explaining that “it’s more likely interested teams will just wait for them to release him outright, allowing him to sign with anyone that has cap room or an available exception.”
Paul is set to retire at the end of the season, and his on-court impact has been minimal this season with averages of 2.9 points and 3.3 assists in 14.3 minutes across his 16 appearances. It’s not surprising that teams would rather sign him as a free agent than pursue him in a potential trade.
At 40 years old, Paul is a respected veteran who can bring a wealth of leadership to any locker room. Still, it sounds like he will have to wait a while before he finds his final landing spot as he closes out his legendary career.
