‘What a comeback’: Prasidh Krishna bounces back in style with triple strike after expensive start in Vizag

Prasidh Krishna was off to an expensive start in the third ODI between India and South Africa in Visakhapatnam, conceding 27 runs in his first two overs. The pacer, however, redeemed himself later in the day by striking thrice in four tidy overs, getting the key wicket of centurion Quinton de Kock along the way.
Prasidh Krishna was retained in the Indian XI for the third and final ODI against South Africa in Visakhapatnam with the series on the line despite proving expensive in the previous game. The pacer, after all, had conceded 85 runs in 8.2 overs in the second one-dayer in Raipur, his economy of 10.20 overshadowing his dismissals of Temba Bavuma and Matthew Breetzke.

On Saturday, Prasidh was off to an expensive start once again, getting hit for three sixes by Quinton de Kock in his first two overs that helped the Proteas shift gears after a cautious start. Arshdeep Singh had removed Ryan Rickelton early in the innings after
skipper KL Rahul won the toss and opted to field, and the left-arm quick was building pressure early together with Harshit Rana.
Prasidh’s expensive opening spell, which included an 18-run second over at the start of the second powerplay, signalled a shift in the South African innings, with de Kock and Bavuma going on to add 113 for the second wicket. Needless to say, the Karnataka pacer was taken off the attack after his second over.
Prasidh redeems himself in the eyes of Indian cricket fans
Prasidh has faced incessant trolling on social media for being expensive, which was evident in the Test series in England where he had an economy touching 5 while collecting 14 wickets in three Tests. The Gujarat Titans seamer, however, had proved his worth back then in the series finale at The Oval, where he provided the ideal foil to Mohammed Siraj’s match-winning spell.
And on Saturday at the ACA-VDCA Stadium in Visakhapatnam, Prasidh highlighted why the team management has been persisting with him of late. The pacer was brought back in the 27th over, and started his new spell on a tidy note by conceding just two singles.
Prasidh, however, would turn the game on its head by getting rid of the in-form pair of Matthew Breetzke (24) and Aiden Markram (1) in the same over – the latter departing cheaply while batting at No 5 after slamming a century while opening in the previous game.
The 29-year-old, however, wasn’t done – after conceding just three singles in his next over, he would castle Quinton de Kock (106) shortly after the South African wicketkeeper-opener brought up his first century since reversing his ODI retirement and equalled Sanath Jayasuriya for most tons against India.

Prasidh Krishna can very well have a good spell later in the game today but he should be immediately sent back to domestic cricket and not be allowed anywhere near the XI across formats. Hasn’t done anything to merit a place in the XI constantly.
