Piastri nails ‘critical’ move on title rival teammate

Oscar Piastri is off to a near-perfect start to the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, getting past teammate and title rival Lando Norris with a stunning move for second place on the opening lap.
Pole-sitter Max Verstappen, Norris and Piastri made it through the first corner in grid order, before Piastri’s bold move at the end of the back straight.
“That’s a critical move … an amazing move,” F1 icon Martin Brundle said in commentary.
Making the move even more impressive was that Piastri started the race on the hardest compound tyre, while Norris started on the mediums, meaning the Brit should have had more grip than his Aussie teammate.
Piastri needs to finish in the top two positions and for both Verstappen and Norris to have strike trouble to become Australia’s first world champion since 1980.
