Bears WR Rome Odunze dealing with stress fracture

Chicago Bears wide receiver Rome Odunze will not play in Sunday’s pivotal matchup against the Green Bay Packers due to a foot injury. Now we know what kind of foot injury Odunze has been working through.
According to NFL insider Tom Pelissero, Odunze has been playing with a stress fracture in his left foot for a good portion of the season and is considered week-to-week going forward. Pelissero indicates the injury won’t impact the receiver in the long term, and Odunze simply needs to rest up.
Odunze first popped up on the injury report with his heel injury in the week leading up to the Bears’ matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals. In the game before, he totaled seven catches for 114 yards in the 30-16 loss to the Baltimore Ravens. While he had been active in every game until this week, Odunze hasn’t made the same impact he once did early on in the season.
Since his 100-yard game against the Ravens, Odunze has totaled 13 receptions for 188 yards and a touchdown in five games. In that span, he struggled with drops, keeping his footing, sideline catches, and more. While Odunze had not been on the injury report the last two weeks, his foot remained an issue.
We will have to see if Odunze’s absence is more than one game or not. The second-year receiver leads the Bears in targets (90), receptions (44), receiving yards (661), and touchdowns (six). The Bears and quarterback Caleb Williams will lean on receivers DJ Moore, Luther Burden, and Olamide Zaccheaus, along with tight ends Colston Loveland and Cole Kmet, in Sunday’s game against the Packers.
