Investigation launched after worker dies at North East haulage firm

A tragic incident a North East haulage firm has resulted in the death of a worker. An investigation at AV Dawson in Middlesbrough is currently under way following the arrival of emergency services at the scene on the morning of Monday, December 8.
Cleveland Police have confirmed their collaboration with the Health and Safety Executive to probe into the death at AV Dawson, the owner and operator of the Port of Middlesbrough.
A representative from the company stated: “We can confirm that an incident occurred at AV Dawson on Monday, December 8, 2025, which has tragically resulted in the death of one of our colleagues.
“First and foremost, our thoughts are with the individual’s family and friends, and with all our colleagues at this incredibly difficult time. Our health and safety team are on site and cooperating fully with the emergency services and the Health and Safety Executive as they investigate the incident.
“As this is an ongoing situation, we are unable to provide further details at this stage.”, reports Teesside Live. Paramedics were alerted at 9.31am on Monday, December 8, following initial reports of an injured person.

The Health and Safety Executive has confirmed their awareness of the incident and are working alongside the police to ascertain the circumstances. A spokesperson for Cleveland Police added: “Officers were called to an incident at AV Dawson earlier today.
“Sadly, a man was pronounced dead at the scene and our thoughts are with his family at this very difficult time. An investigation has been launched and officers are working closely with the Health and Safety Executive while enquiries continue.”
AV Dawson operates as a multimodal freight logistics and port operator from its expansive 40-hectare site situated along the River Tees. The company focuses on port operations, logistics management and the movement of bulk materials, heavy freight, and oversized shipments.
A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service confirmed: “We received a call at 9.31am on Monday, December 8, to reports of a person injured at an address on Riverside Park Road in Middlesbrough. We dispatched two ambulance crews, a duty officer, and a clinical team leader to the scene, and requested support from our colleagues at the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) who attended by road.”
