Just days after announcing his retirement from IPL, Andre Russell made it to the headlines but for all the wrong reasons. He takes a good beating from his West Indies counterpart, Rovman Powell.
The Caribbean duo has spent a good time in league franchise camps, be it together or against each other, but Powell was brute-headed on punishing the KKR veteran with towering sixes in the ongoing ILT20 tournament.
Russell takes good beating from Rovman Powell
In the match between Dubai Capitals and Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Andre Russell was bowling for the latter, and while batting first, Powell played a blitzkrieg knock of 96 runs off 52 balls, where he also showed his force against Russell.
Notably, Andre Russell bowled only two overs in the match, in the 16th and 20th over where Powell showed his power hitting skills to the newly appointed power coach of KKR.
In the second ball of the ultimate over, Powell launched Russell for a towering six, followed by another over the boundary on a no-ball. In the free hit delivery, he hit a boundary again. Powell showed no mercy to Russell in the next ball too, as he slashed a boundary to the Caribbean giant to make the most of the over.
The rough ploughing of Powell added 24 runs from Russell’s over, which led to a total of 186 runs for Dubai Capitals at the end of 20 overs.
Russell fails to avenge with the bat
After the beating, Russell, however, could not take the edge off with the bat as he scored only a nominal 12 runs off six balls before being dismissed by Waqar Salamkheil.
The top and middle order of ADKR failed miserably as they piled up a total of only 103 runs, and were wrapped up inside 15.3 overs. Waqar Salamkheil was the pick of the DC bowlers with his 4-wicket haul as the Powell-Russell matchup saw the former win the contest by a fair and far margin.
