In an unannounced twist, Monday’s trip to the cobbles was littered with flashback scenes centred on the Rovers’ new leading family, the Driscolls.
It saw life for matriarch Maggie and her husband, Alan, as well as her two sons, Ben, owner of the Rovers, and her other son, Finlay, who was revealed to be living abroad in Florida.
The flashback scenes were interspersed in an episode all about her 65th birthday party at the pub in which many Corrie residents gathered to celebrate their new leading lady.
But when it flashed back to family life in Ireland, it seemed that things were less than rosy for the Driscoll clan growing up.

Maggie’s marriage was depicted to be volatile after she increasingly grew irate with her husband and his actions.
She even tried to strike him in one scene before he held his arm up to stop her from clasping him – all witnessed by an 11-year-old Ben.
The pair were seen to row about money and keeping secrets from one another with things eventually coming to a head during one of Maggie’s previous birthday parties.
In the present day, Maggie had already told her new neighbours that her husband died on her birthday years ago but insisted she did not want to dwell on it.
But as her party drew to a close with Ben and her grandsons, Ollie and Will, by her side, the dark truth of what happened to Maggie’s husband was finally exposed.
During a heated late night row, it was revealed that Maggie had enjoyed an affair with another man ten years previously despite being married.
As Maggie told Alan that she wanted him to leave, he replied: “Leave? That’s what I should have done years ago.
“I’d leave you alone with my kids?”
As Maggie insisted that she “loved her boys”, Alan shot back: “You don’t know the meaning of the word.
“Maybe that’s why he didn’t want you.

“He saw you for the controlling, manipulative cow that you really are.”
The row continued as Maggie went on to say to him: “I was sad and I was miserable [in the affair].
“But you are not using those boys to punish me.”
As Alan attempted to make his way up the stairs to get to his children, Maggie lashed out and brutally pushed him down the stairs – killing him.
All this was witnessed by their youngest child, Finlay, who peeped out of his bedroom door in horror.
So far, it seems that Maggie has been able to keep her murder a secret for almost 30 years but will the truth soon be exposed as tensions continue to rise between the entire Driscoll clan at the Rovers?
