Air Transat TRZ-T began cancelling flights on Tuesday ahead of the Wednesday strike deadline set by the union representing its 750 pilots.
The Montreal-based leisure carrier has suspended six flights between Montreal, Toronto, Cancun and Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, as labour negotiations continue.
Transat AT, the airline’s operator, said it is adding flights and capacity on some routes to bring home customers as it prepares to wind down operations. “We understand that this situation may cause inconvenience and uncertainty,” Transat said on its website.

The airline and the Air Line Pilots’ Association have been in talks for almost a year, trying to reach a tentative agreement to replace one struck in 2025. Pilots are seeking better pay and working conditions in line with contracts reached by their counterparts at Air Canada and other airlines.
Before the cancellations, Air Transat was scheduled to fly 30 flights on Tuesday and 47 on Wednesday, according to aviation data company Cirium.
Passengers whose flights are cancelled are entitled to refunds or credits.
