Spurs add striker to Champions League squad ahead of Sparta Prague match

Mathys Tel has replaced Dominic Solanke in Tottenham’s Champions League squad ahead of their clash with Sparta Prague.
Solanke is yet to feature in the competition for Spurs and has not started a match all season so far because of an ankle injury.
His last appearance for the club came in their 2-0 win over Manchester City in August when he came on for the final 12 minutes of the match.
Tel was initially left out of Thomas Frank’s UCL squad as Spurs had already reached the maximum number of foreign players that could be included.
Thomas Frank was asked in his pre-match press conference ahead of the match against Sparta Prague about his decision to originally leave out Tel: “Of course if I knew back then what I know now I maybe would have changed the decision,” he said. “No doubt about that.”
“Of course it is something we can have into consideration if you can change one player, is it the right timing and when is the other player back?
“We need players fit and available in the squad so we have enough players to shoot with from the bench.”
So far this season, Tel has scored twice in ten matches in the Premier League but has not started a match since Spurs’ 2-1 loss to Aston Villa in October.
Tottenham now turn their attention to the match against Sparta Prague. Frank’s side currently sit 16th in the league phase table, so winning this match could be crucial in their attempts to secure a place in the top eight.
