Marseille risks losing star, Man Utd ready to make €50m profit

Manchester United are set to reap around €50m from a staggering €100m bid submitted by new Saudi Pro League side Neom Sports Club for former Red Devils striker Mason Greenwood, according to reports in Spanish media. Transfers.

The offer, made on the eve of the January transfer window, comes after the 24-year-old’s excellent form at Olympique Marseille, where just 18 months after leaving Old Trafford he has become a key player.

His transfer to Marseille for around €26m included a clever 50% buy-out clause – a deal negotiated by former sporting director Dan Ashworth – which puts United in a favourable position to profit significantly from a potential transfer.

Under the guidance of Roberto De Zerbi, Greenwood is having an impressive season in Ligue 1, with 10 goals and 4 assists in 14 games, keeping Marseille in the title race.

He has also excelled in the European arena, where he has recorded a goal and an assist in the Champions League.

His form has attracted the attention of giants like Barcelona and Juventus, but Neom SC seems to consider the English striker the central figure of their ambitious project, praising his “resilience in pressure situations” and offering him an absolute protagonist role.

This development places Greenwood among the most sought-after names of the January transfer window, while Man Utd stands to benefit significantly economically from a potential move to Saudi Arabia. /Telegraph/
