The TFS warns that an uncontrolled bushfire at Dianas Basin is travelling towards Peron Street, Stieglitz and surrounds.
It is expected to put lives in danger and may destroy homes.

More fire crews from around the state will be joining efforts today to contain a bushfire on Tasmania’s east coast.

Firefighters have continued to battle the bushfire near Stieglitz, which overnight was downgraded to a Watch and Act.
TFS confirmed two structures have been damaged, although more information on the extent of the damage won’t be known until rapid impact assessments take place.
Incident controller David Casteller it was still not safe for residents or vehicles to enter the area due to firefighting operations, unsafe trees, fallen powerlines and other debris.
“Conditions on the fireground yesterday were challenging and we are expecting the weather today to be much more favourable for firefighting,” he said.
“I really want to thank the community for taking fast action to stay safe and for remaining away while we bring the fire under control and make the area safe.”
While the Tasman Highway remains open, the St Helens Point Road into Stieglitz is closed.
He said that 28 firefighting trucks, three aircraft and two heavy machines responded to the incident on Tuesday.
The cause of the fire, which was reported about 12.35pm Tuesday at Diana’s Basin, is under investigation.
Watch and Act warnings remain for Parkside, Parnella and Stieglitz. It is not safe to return.
There is also a Watch and Act warning for Dianas Basin, Flagstaff Hill and surrounds.
An evacuation centre has been set up at the St Helens Multipurpose Stadium at 117 Tully Street, St Helens.

Tasmania Fire Service are warning people to leave the area immediately after issuing a Bushfire Emergency Warning for Parkside, Parnella, Stieglitz and surrounds.
Authorities say an uncontrolled bushfire is travelling from Diana’s Basin towards Parkside, Parnella and Stieglitz.
The fire is expected to put lives at risk and may destroy homes.

Police are assisting with evacuations in the St Helens Point area as the TFS responds to a bushfire at Steiglitz.

Tasmania Fire Service have issued a Bushfire Emergency Warning for Stieglitz with advice to leave immediately.
The alert said an uncontrolled bushfire at Diana’s Basin was travelling towards Aerodrome Road and Jetty Road, Stieglitz which is expected to put lives in danger and may destroy homes.
“There is expected to be thick smoke, and showers of embers which may cause fires all around you,” the alert said.
“Spot fires may threaten your home before the main fire arrives.”
Smoke and ash may also make it difficult to see and breathe.
Tasmania Fire Service are currently attending and conditions are expected to be changeable.
If you have a bushfire plan, use it now. The safest way to survive is to go to a safer location now.
If you can leave, make sure there is a clear road to a safer place. Only travel if it is safe for you to do so.
If you cannot safely leave the area of the fire, the below may protect you from fire and radiant heat:
- Seek shelter in the nearest building
- Check your surroundings often
- Put out any fires close to the building until the fire passes
- A large clear area such as a lawn, sportsground, parking lot or cleared paddock
- A stationary car in a clear area
Update: Diana’s Basin camp ground closed due to bushfire, more alerts issued

Update: Bushfire Watch and Act for Stieglitz, Akaroa and surrounds

Tasmania Fire Service issued a Bushfire Watch and Act for Stieglitz, Akaroa and surrounds.
The alert said the blaze was travelling towards the areas and was expected to be difficult to control.
The advice from the TFS was to monitor conditions.
“Embers, smoke, and ash may fall on Stieglitz. Akaroa and and threaten you and your home before the main fire,” the alert said.
“Smoke and ash may make it difficult to see and breathe.”
Action should be taken now to protect yourself, family and home.
Tasmania Fire Service, Tasmania Parks and Wildlife Service and Sustainable Timber Tasmania are currently attending the scene. Conditions are expected to be changeable.
People with a bushfire plan should check it now.
If you decide to leave, the TFS said it should be done early and only if there was a clear path to a safer place.
“If you are not prepared for a bushfire, be ready to leave for a safer place. If you stay, your home may not be defendable,” the alert said.
Earlier: Bushfire travelling towards Dianas Basin, alert issued

Residents and those in the Dianas Basin area should prepare to leave amid a bushfire travelling towards the area.
The Tasmania Fire Service has issued a Bushfire Watch and Act for Dianas Basin in St Helens.
The alert said the fire was travelling towards Diana’s Basin and was expected to impact the surrounding area by 2pm.
The fire is expected to be difficult to control.
“Embers, smoke, and ash may fall on Dianas Basin and surrounding areas and threaten you and your home before the main fire,” the alert said.
“Smoke and ash may make it difficult to see and breathe.”
The TFS is attending and said conditions are expected to be changeable.
People with a bushfire plan should check it now.
If you decide to leave, the TFS said it should be done early and only if there was a clear path to a safer place.
