Google’s Year-End Wrap-Up Video Gets Ripped Over ‘Embarrassing’ Omissions

Google dropped its “Year in Search” video for 2025 on Monday and some internet users aren’t liking the results. (You can watch it here.)
The year-end wrap-up video, which Google has released annually since 2010, has typically featured clips of trends and major events, such as 2020 Black Lives Matter protests, the removal of the Confederate battle flag flying outside the South Carolina state Capitol and families reuniting at the U.S.-Mexico border. The annual video has also looped in clips of someone coming out as transgender and footage from the 2017 Women’s March on the day after Donald Trump’s first inauguration.
Google billed this year’s recap video as showcasing ways people “reimagined their worlds” and featured its typical assortment of pop culture clips — ranging from Lady Gaga and Lububus — before flipping to praise artificial intelligence.
The 2025 video also included footage from the Southern California wildfires, Trump shaking hands with first responders while touring the damage from the Central Texas floods and Erika Kirk declaring that she was choosing “courage” and “family” during the memorial service for her late husband, controversial podcaster Charlie Kirk.
One YouTuber called out Google for “trying SO hard to be unoffensive that it ends up saying nothing instead.”

On Monday, a number of YouTubers shared comments claiming this year’s video missed the mark and pointed out the lack of clips on wars in Ukraine, Gaza and Sudan. It also failed to cover Trump’s immigration crackdown as well as the massive No Kings protests against the president.
“Charlie Kirk in there but nothing about Gaza bro are we fr 😭😭,” one user wrote.
YouTuber @megbishop_ ripped Google’s “embarrassing” approach, as well, and accused the company of skipping “a ton of top searches” to avoid controversy.
HuffPost has reached out to Google for comment.
Others on X, Bluesky and Threads also slammed the video.
“That ’2025 — Year in Search’ video by Google is pure AmeriKKKan propaganda. I wasted my time and data, and I want it back,” wrote @shingiv on X.
“This amazing short feature from Google is what life would be like if you simply accepted the shit show that is the world today and diverted all of your attention to the propaganda of one of the world’s most devious, harmful, and evil corporations,” wrote another user on Bluesky.

Google’s 2025 Year in Search prominently features Erika and Charlie Kirk but completely omits Gaza, AIPAC, ICE and CBP, Ukraine, Gulf of Mexico, tarrifs and inflation, Riyadh, Rapture TikTok, Venezuela, the Sydney Sweeney ad, and the Epstein Files—all incredibly viral, highly searched topics.
