Gerard Butler Faces the Post-Apocalypse in Explosive New Footage from Long-Awaited Action Sequel

Action movie icon Gerard Butler is back and facing the post-apocalypse. Nature proves that it never takes a day as it hurls more danger at Gerard Butler and his family in a new clip from his upcoming survival thriller sequel, Greenland 2: Migration, which you can check out below. After making it to the safety of the Greenland bunkers in the first outing back in 2020, the franchise returns five years later to explore what’s happened to humanity after a comet decimated most of Earth.

Directed once again by Ric Roman Waugh, Greenland 2: Migration finds Morena Baccarin and Roger Dale Floyd returning as Allison Garrity and Nathan Garrity, respectively, with the rest of the cast including Amber Rose Revah (The Punisher), Roman Griffin Davis (Jojo Rabbit), William Abadie (Homeland), Trond Fausa Aurvåg (Oppenheimer), and Tommie Earl Jenkins (Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning) alongside Butler. Greenland 2: Migration is due to land in theaters on January 9, 2026, and you can check out the official synopsis below…

“In the aftermath of a comet strike that decimated most of the earth, Greenland 2: Migration follows the Garrity family (Gerard Butler, Morena Baccarin, and Roman Griffin Davis) as they’re forced to leave the safety of their bunker in Greenland to traverse a shattered world in search of a new home.”

Gerard Butler Faces the Post-apocalypse in ‘Greenland 2: Migration’

The footage finds Butler’s John Garrity, a structural engineer, walking with his family in the woods of the now-desolate earth…when he realizes something is very wrong. Noticing vibrations like some sort of heightened sense-possessing superhero, Butler and his family literally cling on for dear life as smaller comets come hurtling towards them. Teasing both the family dynamic and the world-ending dangers that are likely to be at the core of the movie, the footage has us excited to traverse the post-apocalypse with Butler and his kin.

Upon release, Greenland was well-received by critics, who praised the action-packed survival thriller for its elevated B-movie-esque sensibilities, and went on to become a mild box office success, grossing over $52 million worldwide on a $35 million budget amid the difficulties of the COVID pandemic.

Audiences have waited patiently to be reunited with Butler and the rest of the Garrity family as they enter a new world. And while Greenland 2: Migration took half a decade to arrive, producer has hinted that we won’t be waiting anywhere near as long for Greenland 3…as well as teasing a shock in the sequel.

“We wrapped in July and I saw a first cut this past week, which is great. It’s a great achievement for the filmmakers involved. It’s a $90M film and exactly the type we want to see more of in Europe. We’re thinking about what could happen afterwards. There’s something that happens in 2 that could be tricky, but I’m sure we can find a way…”
