Promoting strong competition has never been more important, Irish watchdog says

( December 9, 2025, 09:44 GMT | Official Statement) — MLex Summary: Concentration has risen across multiple industries in Ireland’s services sector, such as information and communications technology services or accounting, particularly since 2016, the Irish antitrust authority said on Tuesday. Since 2022, the top four companies have an average market share of 37 percent, up 12 percentage points since 2008, the Competition and Consumer Protection Commission said. The watchdog’s latest report on competition in Ireland showed an increase in concentration and average markups, “meaning the promotion of strong competition has never been more important,” CCPC Chair Brian McHugh said in a statement. The watchdog would use the report to focus on the areas where increased competition could have the biggest impact, he said. Statement follows. Reports are attached. …
