Slick morning and evening commute on Wednesday due to rain, freezing rain, and snow

PORTLAND (WGME) — A dusting of overnight snow is leaving slick spots for Wednesday’s morning commute before ushering in a messy mix of rain, freezing rain, and snow throughout the day.

Windy and sunny conditions will follow by week’s end.

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued for the mountains of Maine and New Hampshire. This will go into effect at 7 AM Wednesday through 1 AM Thursday.

The mountains will stick to snow, upwards of 5 inches. Interior Maine could see up to 2″.

Regardless, the evening commute will be slick. Take it slow.

The evening commute is where it will get tricky for drivers. Inland spots are set to see snow before mixing with rain and potentially freezing rain, all coincidentally during the busiest travel times in the evening.

The mountains and foothills are on track to receive some plowable snow.

We will have to keep a close eye on the Sebago Lake region pushing up to Augusta, as communities there will have a difficult time getting out of the freezing range.

Windy Wednesday evening.{ }(WGME)

Late in the day on Wednesday, winds will be gusting up to 20 to 30 MPH from the south.

Sun returns for Thursday and Friday as the winds pick up out of the west both days.

Wind chills will be in the teens to the coastline and negative single digits in the mountains on Thursday.

Weekend forecast.{ }(WGME)

For the weekend, cold temperatures return with some possible snow on Sunday.

Another cold week is on tap for the third week of December.
