Cedar Rapids woman pleads guilty to charges in fatal motorcycle crash

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) – The driver of a car that hit and killed a motorcyclist in 2023 has taken a plea deal one day before she was scheduled to go to trial.
Debra Trimble, 62, from Cedar Rapids, took a plea agreement to the charges of homicide by vehicle – reckless driving, a first-offense operating while under the influence and serious injury by vehicle.

The crash happened on the evening of October 3, 2023, near the intersection of Cottage Grove Avenue SE and Highlands Court SE.
Chad Craig, 48, of Cedar Rapids, died in the crash.

Officials say he was driving a motorcycle when he was hit head-on by Trimble, who tried to pass another vehicle in a no-pass zone.
Trimble faces 16 years in prison at her sentencing on February 3. She had previously been charged with homicide by vehicle – Operating Under the Influence which carried a 25 year sentence.
