Icy roads and dense fog create major delays for Lowcountry commuters Wednesday morning

LOWCOUNTRY, S.C. (WCIV) — Icy roads and bridges are causing massive traffic backups throughout the Lowcountry Wednesday morning as commuters wake up and face the winter weather.
According to the North Charleston Police Department, icy roads and bridges as well as dense fog has been reported in the area. Additionally a freezing fog advisory has been issued for Charleston and tidal Berkeley counties until 9 a.m.
A Freezing Fog Advisory is in effect for Charleston and tidal Berkeley counties until 9am. Patchy black ice and slick spots will be possible on bridges and overpasses this morning. We’ve had multiple crashes on I-526 already this morning around the Don Holt Bridge. (WCIV)
The Cosgrove Bridge was closed in both directions at approximately 7:14 a.m. after a thin layer of ice on the bridge led to a multi-vehicle collision, according to Charleston Police Department. The westbound side of the Don Holt bridge is also closed due to a multi-vehicle collision. All lanes of I-526 is blocked off on the eastbound side near Virginia Ave.
The right lane is blocked on I-526 westbound before the Don Holt Bridge AND another vehicle is blocking the left lane about a hundred feet up from this crash. Then there’s another pickup truck blocking the right lane on the Don Holt Bridge westbound. (Trooper Bob){ }
The commute time from West Ashley to Mount Pleasant along 526 eastbound is sitting at approximately 106 minutes as of 6:40 a.m.
