A highly anticipated crime drama series, featuring acclaimed actors Martin Compston, known for his role in “Line of Duty,” and Douglas Henshall from “Shetland,” is set to premiere on Paramount+ on December 12. The six-episode series, titled “The Revenge Club,” is based on J.D. Pennington’s bestselling novel, “The Othello Club,” and promises to deliver a thrilling narrative that has captivated readers since its release in October 2025.

The show has drawn significant attention as viewers remain engrossed in a variety of gripping crime dramas and political thrillers. Pennington’s novel, praised for its dark and twisty plotline, quickly became a favorite among readers, some of whom have rated it five stars on platforms like Amazon. “The Othello Club” follows a group of six individuals—a mix of bitter divorcees brought together by a support group—who plot revenge against their ex-partners. Each character carries their emotional scars, and what begins as petty pranks escalates into a series of dangerous events, culminating in a shocking and deadly accident. As their revenge plots intensify, the lines separating vengeance from madness blur, leaving the group on the brink of moral collapse.

Joining Compston and Henshall in the cast are Aimee-Ffion Edwards from “Peaky Blinders,” Meera Syal of “Goodness Gracious Me,” Sharon Rooney known for “Black Mirror,” Chaneil Kular from “Sex Education,” Amit Shah of “Happy Valley,” and Niamh Walsh from “Jamestown,” ensuring a strong British ensemble.

Pennington, who serves as the executive producer for the series, acknowledged the inevitable divergences from his novel during the adaptation process. He noted that while the essence of the book remains intact, viewers can expect new and unexpected plot points tailored for television. This adaptation allows both readers of the novel and newcomers to explore the themes of betrayal and the limits of human behavior.

Gabbie Asher, the screenwriter, explained her approach to adapting the story for the small screen. While maintaining the core concept of the revenge pact among the six divorcees, she emphasized that many character developments and story arcs were crafted specifically for the series. Asher found inspiration from the novel, completing the pilot episode’s script in just three weeks, showcasing her enthusiasm and ability to capture the essence of the original material while crafting an engaging television experience.

“The Revenge Club” is set to launch on Paramount+ in the UK and Ireland on December 12, and it appears to be a promising addition to the crime drama genre, with expectations high among both fans of the book and newcomers.
