Emmerdale may be gearing up for Christmas with an explosive end of the year lined up, but that doesn’t stop the festive warmth from seeping through into the ITV soap.

On Thursday’s (December 11) hour-long installment, viewers were in for a welcomed change as singer Jason Donovan made a cameo and enjoyed a sing-a-long in The Woolpack.

The Neighbours legend performed one of his classic hits to a packed out Woolpack for Lydia Dingle, after Kim Tate organised the surprise following her disappointment that Sam Dingle failed to get tickets.

Jason said of his latest soap stint: “I’m incredibly excited to have been asked to make a cameo appearance in Emmerdale as myself. Filming was great fun and all of the cast and crew were extremely welcoming. Singing in the Woolpack set was definitely an experience I won’t forget.”

Most of the village were there cheering Jason on, with Kammy Hadiq getting a selfie with him, while pretending to be the singer’s biggest fan. Viewers were loving the change in pace after a heavy few months in Emmerdale. Ever since Celia Daniels and Ray Walters arrived in the village, their world of modern slavery and exploitation has left a dark cloud over the Dales.

Now, fans of the ITV soap were loving that characters were all mixing together. On a Reddit thread, u./emily-67 wrote: “How lovely was it to have so many characters interacting in today’s episode? I really wish they would do so more often!”

u/butterscotcheast1872 replied: “The best Thursday hour episode for a long time.” On X (formerly known as Twitter), viewers were feeling the same love., with @tvaddict2025 noting they were “obsessed” as Jason Donovan was credited as just “Jason Donovan”.

@ryansoapking25 wrote: “A brilliant episode of #Emmerdale tonight. The Jason Donovan scenes were amazing” as @gem_louise23 added: “Knew kim would pull it off. I love kim tate. Lydia’s face priceless. Jason Donovan especially for you… haha”.

Another viewer @jameswilli97565 praised the episode, and echoed: “I enjoyed watching the episode this morning and nice to see Jason Donovan in The Woolpack”.

However, the episode did take a dark turn at the end as Kim Tate was left lying down on the ground in agony. With her horse also injured, it looked as though they’d been caught in some sort of snare.

With her struggling to even reach her phone for help, Kim looked resigned to her fate. Will anyone find her, and will there be enough time to save her?

Emmerdale airs on weekdays at 7:30pm on ITV1 and is available to stream on ITVX.
