Jadon Sancho role under further threat as Aston Villa agree £10.5m deal for new winger

Jadon Sancho’s role at Aston Villa is in further jeopardy as Unai Emery has decided to reinforce his winger department by reaching an agreement for a 19-year-old Brazilian prospect.

Everyone knew when Jadon Sancho left Manchester United on loan for a third time that the England international had no future at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old, whose career has nosedived since arriving at United from Borussia Dortmund in 2021, is currently at Aston Villa until the end of the season.

Sancho’s current contract at United will expire in the summer and he will be free to join another club on a Bosman deal.

Ex-Dortmund teammate Marco Reus would welcome Sancho at LA Galaxy, but it remains to be seen if the winger is willing to move to the US at this stage of his career.

Sancho has yet to score for Villa since joining them at the beginning of the 2025/26 season, despite making a total of 12 appearances under Unai Emery.

Jadon Sancho to be pushed down pecking order by Alysson

Sancho hasn’t done enough to warrant a starting role for Villa this season, which suggests he is not meeting the expectations they had when signing him on loan.

Most of Sancho’s minutes for Villa have come in the Europa League, with the winger getting just 15 minutes on the pitch during their recent 2-1 win over Arsenal at Villa Park.

In the game before that – Villa’s 4-3 win over Brighton – Sancho didn’t even come off the bench, and he played a mere two minutes in their 1-0 win over Wolves.

That means the latest transfer news concerning Villa should come as a blow to the United loanee, as it could mean Sancho gets fewer opportunities, unless he pulls his socks up in terms of goal contributions.

According to BBC Sport, Villa have agreed a £10.5 million deal to sign Alysson from Gremio.

The 19-year-old winger is set to undergo a medical before joining Villa in January. The deal has an initial value of £8.7 million, with Villa expected to pay £1.8 million in performance-related add-ons.

Gremio have also agreed a sell-on clause for Alysson, who will be competing with Sancho and other players for a place in the team for the second half of the campaign.

Alysson is a left-footed winger who scored two goals and provided five assists in 43 appearances this year. He joins an attacking department that consists of Ollie Watkins, Morgan Rodgers, Evann Guessand, Sancho, Donyell Malen and Harvey Elliott.

There is plenty of competition for places at Villa, and that doesn’t bode well for Sancho right now.

Jadon Sancho third time not lucky

As mentioned earlier in this article, Sancho has been sent on loan three times by United.

The winger has failed to attract any permanent buyers in that time, meaning he didn’t exactly pull up trees in any of his loan moves.

Sancho’s highlight would have been reaching the Champions League final on his return to Dortmund, but he did not perform at Chelsea, and the same could be said about his time at Villa.

It begs the question: who will want to sign Sancho in the summer?
