Everaldo in goal drought, Fluminense’s unlikely hope in semis

Fluminense takes the field this Thursday night (11) to face Vasco in the Copa do Brasil semifinal, experiencing a paradox in their attacking command. The center-forward Everaldo, the current starter in the position, comes to the match at Maracanã under strong suspicion from the fans and facing a long goal drought, yet holding the position of the competition’s second top scorer.
With four goals scored in eight matches played in the tournament, the number 9 ranks second in the scorers’ ranking, tied with his teammate Germán Cano (currently injured), as well as Rayan from Vasco and Luiz Fernando from Athletico-PR. The tricolor striker is just one goal away from matching the leader of the statistic, Kaio Jorge from Cruzeiro, who has five goals.
Despite the good overall numbers in the Copa do Brasil, where he has an average of one goal every 133 minutes on the field, Everaldo’s recent form is concerning. The player hasn’t found the net since August 2, when he scored against Grêmio in the Brazilian Championship.
His last great performance in the knockout stage was in the round of 16, when he scored two goals against Internacional. Now, against Vasco, he has the opportunity to end the bad phase and stand out in the race for top scorer, in a decisive match for Tricolor’s aspirations this season.
