USC Trojans slated to play 2028 home games at SoFi Stadium

LOS ANGELES — As the city of Los Angeles preps for the Olympics to touchdown in Southern California in 2028, the USC Trojans are expected to play their home games in the 2028 season at SoFi Stadium in compliance with a variety of Olympic games’ being hosted at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, as reported Thursday morning by Ryan Kartje of The Los Angeles Times.
With the Trojans expected to play their home games at SoFi Stadium for the 2028 season, all four L.A. football teams, the Los Angeles Rams, Los Angeles Chargers, UCLA Bruins, and Trojans, could play all under one roof. The Bruins became the latest team to ink a deal to make SoFi Stadium their new home, as UCLA’s Athletic Department told Bruin Report Online that the move to SoFi Stadium is a “near-done deal,” according to 247 Sports.
According to Kartje, USC and LA28 officials have been aware for years that hosting Olympic track and field at the Coliseum would create logistical issues for either side, and along with that, a $100M raised track is being built on the Coliseum field. Kartje also mentioned that taking down the track will take well into the fall, and even if the Trojans could squeeze a home game at the Coliseum, it may not be in USC’s best interest to wiggle around the logistics.
Still, USC’s plans for its 2028 season have not been finalized, and with that, some logistical questions need to be ironed out before the Trojans up and leave the Coliseum for SoFi Stadium. But it is worth noting that the Coliseum has always been confirmed to be used during the 2028 Olympics, as far back as July 31, 2017, when it was announced during the 131st International Olympic Committee session.
On the other side of the coin, the Rose Bowl was not even highly considered a new destination for the Trojans’ 2028 home games, and SoFi was always Plan A, per Kartje.
