HARRY SKELTON: Cheltenham Friday – Football & Racing News

We’re excited to send a horde of runners to Cheltenham for their December meeting, writes HARRY SKELTON.

We had two winners on Thursday at Warwick, the horses are in good form heading into Christmas and we’re looking forward to seeing how they get on, starting with Day One where we have decent chances.

FRIDAY

MINELLA MARATHON – 12.05pm Cheltenham

He won well on his first run for us over two-and-a-half miles at Lingfield, but we’re dropping him back to two miles here. This is more of a galloping track which should be no problem for him. He looked promising that day and although he’s stepping up in class here, we like this horse and he’s only four, so he’ll get some good experience around here regardless. We’re interested to see how he goes in this field, but further down the line he’ll be a nice chaser and looks a stayer in the making.

ROYAL INFANTRY – 12.40pm Cheltenham

He takes on the larger obstacles here for the first time, having done plenty of schooling. He ran a good race in the Silver Trophy but was a bit disappointing last time out, so we’re hoping to leave that behind us now going chasing. It’s a competitive field but he should be in with a chance.

FORTUNE DE MER – 1.15pm Cheltenham

We’re hoping they go a strong gallop, as that should suit him around here. He needs that pace to help him settle and if he gets that then he should be competitive. He just ran into one at Ascot last time out so we’re hoping to get back to winning ways.

LE MILOS – 2.25pm Cheltenham

He’s in good form. He pulled up last time out at Bangor as the ground was too testing for him that day, and the handicapper needs to give him a chance in the weights. Now he’s a bit older he’s not reaching the heights he used to, but he’s still full of enthusiasm so we’re hoping he gets dropped to a more workable mark moving forwards.

TRANQUIL SEA – 3.35pm Cheltenham

He got going late in a slowly run race last time out at Market Rasen. He had a wind operation before that, and we know he can stay, so we’re hoping he can perform better second time out after that. The track will suit him so he’s got a chance.
