Wintry weather returns to the Capital Region with snow intensifying in northern areas

Capital Region (WRGB) — A strong clipper system is set to bring wintry weather to the region on Wednesday, with accumulating snowfall expected in certain areas. Light snow is anticipated to begin this morning, becoming steadier across the northern parts of the region. The Catskills, Taconics, and Berkshires are likely to see light to moderate snow accumulations due to terrain-enhanced snowfall throughout the day. In contrast, the Capital Region and Hudson Valley may experience lighter precipitation, with some rain mixing in as the day progresses. Snow accumulations in these areas are expected to be minimal, with precipitation tapering off into light drizzle by evening.

Thursday’s temperatures are expected to peak around 30 degrees just before dawn, then drop into the 20s for much of the day. The afternoon will be windy, with gusts potentially reaching 40 mph in the western Mohawk Valley. While a lake effect flurry or two is possible, most of the area will remain dry. As the weekend approaches, temperatures will stay chilly, ranging from the upper 20s to low 30s. A few snow showers may occur on Saturday, but otherwise, conditions are expected to remain dry.
