More are choosing to ditch the BBC in favour of steaming giants and YouTube, as the BBC faces a battle to remain relevant to younger generations.

Last year alone 300,000 households stopped paying.

The rate for 2026 is expected to be linked to the annual inflation figure in the year to September, which was 3.8%

It would be the first time the TV Licence has passed £175.

The annual cost is linked to inflation until at least spring 2028.

Discussions about how the BBC is funded at the end of that contract will be had by ministers.
