One of The Greatest Naval WWII Movies of The Decade Is A Sleeper Hit on Streaming

Despite not earning a perfect critics’ score on Rotten Tomatoes, fans would agree that Greyhound, led by Tom Hanks, remains one of the decade’s greatest World War II movies. The film was originally scheduled to hit US theaters on June 12, 2020, courtesy of Sony Pictures Releasing; however, the release was delayed indefinitely and then canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, Sony sold the distribution rights to Apple TV+, which released the film digitally on July 10, 2020.
Even without a theatrical release, Greyhound quickly became a favorite among many who still appreciate its excellence, as reflected by its position on streaming charts. Five years after its debut, the war film is among the 10 most popular movies currently streaming on Apple TV+ globally, including in the UK. Also starring in the phenomenal production are Stephen Graham, Rob Morgan, Elisabeth Shue, Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, Tom Brittney, and Devin Druid, among others.
Hanks portrays US Navy Commander Ernest Krause in Greyhound and is assigned to lead an Allied convoy across the Atlantic during World War II. His convoy, however, is pursued by German U-boats. Although this is Krause’s first wartime mission, he finds himself embroiled in what would come to be known as the longest, largest, and most complex naval battle in history: The Battle of the Atlantic. Aaron Schneider directed the film while Hanks wrote the screenplay, adapting the 1955 novel The Good Shepherd by C. S. Forester.
