Oilers acquire D Spencer Stastney from Predators for third-round pick

The Edmonton Oilers have added a defenceman to play in front of their new goalie.
The Oilers acquired Spencer Stastney from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick, the teams announced on Friday.
It’s the second move of the day for Edmonton, after they acquired netminder Tristan Jarry from Pittsburgh.
Stastney, 25, has played in 30 games this season, recording a goal and eight assists. The six-foot, left-shot defenceman has played in 81 NHL games over his career, logging 18 points (three goals, 15 assists).
While coming from the Preds, who sit at the bottom of the standings, the blue-liner is a -1 on the season and averaged just under 15 minutes of ice time a night. He also has some playoff experience, appearing in three games during Nashville’s 2023-24 first-round exit.
Stastney now joins a banged-up Edmonton squad that has a hole on the left-side of the defence. The Oilers not only placed Jake Walman on the long-term injured reserve on Thursday, but Brett Kulak was shipped to Pittsburgh as part of the return for Jarry.
The Oilers face the Maple Leafs in Toronto on Saturday, beginning at 7 p.m. ET / 5 p.m. MT on Sportsnet and Sportsnet+.
