My first reaction to this Valentino Spring 2026 gown was simple and instinctive: “when is this press tour going to end?” Because at this point, I can’t bear to see Kate like this — not when we all know what she’s capable of delivering on a red carpet.

The silhouette itself is classic Kate: plunging neckline, soft draping, a statuesque line through the body. She’s worn variations of this effortless glamour throughout her career, and when it hits, it really hits. But here? The shades of moss green are doing her no favours, draining rather than enhancing, and flattening what could’ve been an elegant colour story.

And then comes the cape.

The salmon-pink chiffon cape with the black velvet collar feels like a last-minute attempt to inject personality into a look that already feels off balance. Instead, it pushes the whole ensemble further into confusion in the hope that the look might suddenly make sense.

I don’t get it. Any of it.

When it comes to Kate’s style lately, it’s the hope that kills you.
