‘Pulp Fiction’ Actor Peter Greene Passes Away at 60

“Pulp Fiction” actor Peter Greene passed away in New York City at age 60 on Friday, December 12, his longtime manager confirmed to New York Post.

“He was a terrific guy,” Gregg Edward said of the beloved actor. “Truly one of the great actors of our generation. His heart was as big as there was. I’m going to miss him. He was a great friend.”

Peter Greene Had a Storied Career

Greene was an iconic character actor who often portrayed onscreen villains. He was perhaps best known for his role in the 1994 films “The Mask” alongside Jim Carrey and Cameron Diaz as well as “Pulp Fiction”, both of which he played the main antagonist.

Born in New Jersey, the “Training Day” star began acting in his mid-20s after training at Lee Strasberg’s studio. He rose to fame after being recognized by iconic director Quentin Tarantino after his role in 1993’s “Clean, Shaven.” The following year, Tarantino cast him as Zed in “Pulp Fiction.”

Throughout the 1990s, Greene continued to lean into his villain persona in films such as “The Usual Suspects,” “Under Siege 2: Dark Territory” and “Blue Streak.”

Greene continued to work throughout the 2000s, landing roles in films such as “Training Day,” “Brothers in Arms,” “End Game,” and “Fist of the Warrior.” He also did small screen work with appearances in “Hawaii Five-O”, “Justified” and “The Black Donellys.”

According to his manager, Greene was set to begin production on a project called “Mascots” alongside Mickey Rourke, the New York Post reported.

Greene was found unresponsive inside his Clinton Street apartment in Manhattan’s Lower East Side on Friday, December 12.

A cause of death has not yet been revealed.

As news of Greene’s passing began to spread on social media, fans and friends began sharing tributes to the late star.

“One of the memorable actors from the 90s. RIP,” one fan shared via X on Friday, December 12.

“A character actor masterclass. That Pulp Fiction and The Mask double-punch was iconic. RIP, Zed,” another wrote.

“R.I.P. Peter Greene.

“I used to be so scared of him when I was little watching the Mask… RIP King,” another fan added.
