LaNorris Sellers Reportedly Nearing Contract for S. Carolina Return over NFL Draft

LaNorris Sellers is reportedly learning toward sticking around for at least one more season with South Carolina.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, Sellers “is nearing a deal” to return to South Carolina and forego the 2026 NFL draft.

The B/R NFL Scouting Department has Sellers listed as its No. 11 QB and 112th player overall on its latest big board.

A Florence, South Carolina, native, Sellers entered his freshman season as a 4-star prospect and the No. 18 quarterback in the class of 2023, per 247Sports’ composite rankings.

Sellers served as a backup to Spencer Rattler during his freshman season before taking over as the starter in 2024. He put together a strong first campaign under center, throwing for 2,534 yards, 18 touchdowns and seven interceptions while adding 674 rushing yards and seven touchdowns on the ground.

Ahead of the 2025 campaign, Sellers was widely considered to be a candidate to be selected No. 1 overall in the 2026 NFL draft, but he didn’t quite live up to the lofty expectations.

He finished the 2025 season with 2,437 passing yards, 13 touchdowns and eight interceptions, adding 270 rushing yards and five rushing touchdowns. The Gamecocks went 4-8 in a disappointing season.

Amid underwhelming results, some scouts reportedly expected him to skip the draft and spend another year at the college level, perhaps for another program.

Ultimately, he won’t leave for the draft quite yet, and he’ll see things through with the Gamecocks.

Sellers will look to put together a strong 2026 season to improve his standing for the 2027 NFL draft. In the process, he’ll look to lead South Carolina to success after a down year in 2025.
