The Orange took down Saint Joseph’s 71-63 at home Thursday. Defense guided Syracuse (6-3) to its second straight win. It held the Hawks to 36% from the field and 19% on 3-pointers.
Big man William Kyle III was the Orange’s defensive anchor, finishing with four blocks and two steals. The UCLA transfer is averaging 2.9 blocks a game, which includes a six-block performance in Syracuse’s upset win over Tennessee. Kyle also added 12 points and 11 rebounds.
Despite shooting 1-of-6 from the free throw line, sophomore Tyler Betsey led the Orange in scoring off the bench. He scored 16 points, including a couple important baskets late in the game. The Cincinnati transfer is averaging 9.8 points per game this season.
Hofstra beat Pitt on Dec. 7, led by a 36-point showing from Cruz Davis. Davis is averaging 20.6 points per game this season, shooting 42.6% on threes.
