New Lotto 6/49 player pockets $1.6M only weeks after buying his first-ever lottery ticket

It took just three Lotto 6/49 tickets for Alexis Michaud from Chaudière-Appalaches, Que., to become a millionaire. He had only started playing the lottery online a few weeks earlier, when his third-ever Lotto 6/49 ticket won him $1,666,666 in the Sept. 10, 2025 Classic Draw.

Michaud bought the winning ticket the same way he purchased his first two: quickly and casually through the Loto-Québec app. He didn’t check the results until the next day, after finishing work, when he logged into his online account and saw the seven-figure amount. The shock was immediate.

The first person he told was his sister, who was stunned but thrilled for him. Later that evening, he shared the news with his parents, and his mother was so moved she shed tears of joy. What began as a simple introduction to online lottery play suddenly became a life-changing moment for the new player.

For lottery players, Michaud’s win is a striking example of how digital play continues to grow. Many players try Lotto 6/49 for the first time online, but it’s unusual for someone to land a million-dollar prize within their first few weeks and first few tickets.

With more than $1.6 million now in hand, Michaud already knows how he wants to use the windfall. A longtime fan of camping, road trips and discovering new places, he plans to travel across Canada in a van, something he’s wanted to do for years. He also hopes to spend some time exploring Europe, and eventually, buy a house.

Lotto 6/49 is drawn every Wednesday and Saturday and features two chances to win: the Classic Draw, with a fixed $5 million jackpot, and the Gold Ball Draw, where the jackpot starts at $10 million and can climb as high as $68 million.

Michaud matched all six numbers — 11, 25, 30, 35, 46, 49 — sharing the Classic Jackpot with three other winners across the country. For a player with just three tickets behind him, it’s a win he’ll remember for the rest of his life.
