CEO of Jewish House, Rabbi Mendel Kastel, said he lost multiple family members and friends in the terror event.
His brother-in-law, Rabbi Ellie Schultz, is one of the confirmed 16 dead, along with an employee of the Jewish House.

“The Rabbi’s wife, her best friend, both lost their husbands, and they both have young children. The Rabbi’s got a baby, only a few months old,” he said.
“I spent the whole night going between a number of hospitals, going back and forth to different hospitals, trying to find people who are missing and supporting families, in some cases, who even have to identify loved ones,” he said.
“It’s been a harrowing evening, and you can very easily become very angry and try and turn on people and blame people. But that’s not what this is about.
“The Jewish community, the Australian community and the world community — people don’t want to see this kind of behaviour. It’s unacceptable, it’s disgusting, it’s vile. What we want to see is people coming together. And I think that’s the important message from this. The hate has got to stop.”
