St. Michael football team goes wild for Philip Rivers touchdown pass

The players on the St. Michael Catholic High School (Alabama) football have gone wild after seeing a big play from their head coach, Philip Rivers.
The veteran quarterback, who coaches the high school football team, came out of retirement this week to help out the Indianapolis Colts. He replaced an injured Daniel Jones and suited up for a game against the Seattle Seahawks.
Sure, Rivers hasn’t played since the 2020 season, but he didn’t particularly show any signs of rust as he found wide receiver Josh Downs for a touchdown. As a video posted by a member of the football team showed, the entire group went wild during their watch party.

The members of the football team clapped, cheered, and celebrated in other ways while showing support for the man who has regularly guided them into battle on the gridiron.
The 44-year-old quarterback has received considerable support from the Catholic high school as he has taken advantage of this new opportunity to sling the football around with players half his age. In fact, St. Michael even released a statement showing this support.
“St. Michael Catholic High School proudly extends its heartfelt congratulations to Coach Philip Rivers on his return to the National Football League,” the school said in a statement. “Our entire school community is thrilled for this new opportunity in his professional journey.
“Coach Rivers has brought exceptional leadership, passion, and dedication to the St. Michael football program. His presence has made a profound impact on our student-athletes—both on and off the field—and we are deeply grateful for the example he sets as a coach, mentor, and man of faith.”
The statement continued with a message about cheering on Rivers as he joins the Colts for the remainder of the NFL season. The school added that it was confident that this experience would only “further enrich” Rivers’ impact on the school and the community.
