Thousands of Bexley households to receive £150 food vouchers for Christmas

The initiative is part of a wider effort by Bexley Council to help its most vulnerable residents, and comes to help with rising living costs at Christmas.
The vouchers will be given to households that, as of July 31, 2025, qualified for the Council Tax Reduction Scheme and either have children under five or a pensioner not receiving Pension Credit in the household.
Those eligible for the vouchers will be contacted directly by letter or email with details on how to claim.
Funding for this scheme comes from the most recent round of the government’s Household Support Fund (HSF), which allocated £2.71 million to Bexley between April 2025 to March 2026.
Councillor David Leaf, leader of the council and cabinet member for resources, said: “With living costs rising we know that many households are struggling to make ends meet.
This administration will do what we can with the resources available to help those affected and the council has therefore allocated the funding from the Household Support Fund so that it is as far reaching as possible and has the most impact on our vulnerable residents.
As well as making direct payments to households, we continue to work with local organisations to help support those most in need”.
The council is working with Edenred Reward Gateway to deliver the vouchers.
The £150 vouchers are part of a wider package of support funded by the HSF.
Other measures include free school meals during the holidays, housing support, and funding for children’s and adult social care.
The fund also supports organisations that help unpaid carers, people affected by domestic abuse, and those in need of crisis support.
Foodbanks and community groups that assist with white goods, furniture, debt advice, and benefits guidance are also supported by the HSF.
