Coronation Street star Jack P Shepherd has been seen introducing fans to his ‘new co-star’ and he has a link to his soap star pal who was axed from the long-running show.
As those who follow the ITV soap know, the actor is famed for playing David Platt in Weatherfield, having made his debut in the role back in 2000, and was seen celebrating his 25th anniversary of being on the cobbles earlier this year.
And having been part of many huge Corrie moments over the years, it was recently confirmed that Jack will be part of another huge TV as the Manchester-based soap joins forces with Emmerdale for a single crossover episode.
For those unaware, a crossover of the two major soaps has been commissioned to herald the start of ITV’s new soap power hour schedule. It will see both of the show’s air in half an hour instalments every weeknight, while still being available from 7am on ITVX and YouTube.
The standalone episode, titled Corriedale, will see the two worlds collide – and one night changes everything as a multi-vehicle pile-up will be at the centre of the drama. An explosive trailer recently revealed the aftermath of the crash on a dark and stormy country road near the village of Hotten.
Desperate voices call for help in the darkness as the emergency services arrive. Fans of both soaps will recognise them as David Platt, Tracy Barlow, Liam Cavanagh, and Aaron Dingle. It comes after it was previously announced that Emmerdale’s Aaron and Corrie’s DS Lisa Swain, played by Danny Miller and Vicky Myers, would be among the iconic characters starring in the special episode.

But seemingly confirmed he is safe from the upcoming drama, Jack took to Instagram over the weekend with a video in which he could be seen on Corrie’s set with a dog not seen in Weatherfield before – and it definitely wasn’t he on-screen companion, David the dog.
Explaining in the clip, the 37-year-old said: “Look at this teddy bear… Boris. [He] won Pup Idol and this is his treat. He gets to be on Corrie for today and I’m in his scene!” As Jack started laughing, he realised there was rehearsals going on close by so cut the video, which he captioned; “Met Boris the Pom at work.”
And it didn’t take some long to work out that Jack was referring to Boris being the winner of the This Morning competition for a dog to be an extra on Corrie, which was hosted by Jack’s pal and former Corrie co-star, Colson Smith. The Craig Tinker actor was soon responding, as he commented on the post: “My boy [heart emoji].”
Fans were also quick to respond to the update. @karen_irvin13 said: “Oh I watched pup idols and missed the winner but hoped it would be Boris.” @persianista9 commented: “Omg he’s the cutest…I want one.” @snowdrop88 wrote: “Love Boris, he is from my hometown Portsmouth so I was so happy he won.”
@laura.croft17 posted: “Can’t wait to see Boris on those famous cobbles! So adorable! Hope he’ll become a regular. We need to see more dogs in the show!” @angieroberts205 added: “He is gorgeous glad he won, he is stunning.”
