Colorado Hosts Northern Colorado for Last Nonconference Game

BOULDER – The Colorado women’s basketball team (8-3, 0-0 Big 12) hosts Northern Colorado (8-2, 0-0 Big Sky) for its last nonconference game on Dec. 16 at CU Events Center at 7 p.m. MT. 

The Buffs will face the Bears for the 22nd time in program history, having faced them last season and defeated them, 81-66 (Nov. 7, 2024). CU has won the last 12-straight against UNCo, boasting an 11-3 record when playing the Bears in the CU Events Center.
 
On Sunday (Dec. 14), the Buffs defeated the Miami (OH) RedHawks, 75-55, leading through all four quarters. The Buffs had four players in double-figure points, held the RedHawks to 19.2% from the three-point line, had over double their rebounds (43-21) and totaled 42 points in the paint.
 
 
TIP-OFF (TL;DR)

  • CU is led by 10th-year head coach JR Payne, who has led the Buffs to a 172-119 (.591) record as CU’s eighth head women’s basketball coach. Coach Payne has been extended through the 2028 season and has led the Buffs to three NCAA appearances, two WNIT appearances and one WBIT appearance.
  • In its second year back in the Big 12, Colorado was picked to finish ninth in the Big 12 Preseason Poll.
  • With the re-addition of So. F Tabitha Betson to the 2025-26 roster, the Buffs return four from last year’s team, also including Sr. F Jade Masogayo, So. G Kennedy Sanders and 5th C JoJo Nworie. Betson returns from a semester at home with her family after some time to recharge.
  • Colorado welcomes 10 newcomers for the 2025-26 season, five transfers and five freshmen. The five transfers include Jr. G Zyanna Walker (Kansas State), Jr. G Desiree Wooten (North Texas), Jr. G Claire O’Connor (Gonzaga), Jr. G Maeve McErlane (DePaul) and Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat (Rhode Island). The five freshmen include G Erianna Gooden (Fork Smith, Ark./Northside H.S.), C Jade Crook (Albury, Australia/Basketball Australia Center of Excellence/Lake Ginninderra College), G Isa Hämäläinen (Lorentzweiler, Luxembourg/European School of Luxembourg 1), F Logyn Greer (Lansdowne, Pa./Friends’ Central School) and F Sophie Zadel (San Antonio, Texas/Alamo Heights H.S).
  • Sr. F Jade Masogayo is 25th in conference for blocks per game (0.9). Against Miami (OH), she reached a season-high 19 points, as well as six rebounds and an assist (Dec. 14).
  • Fr. F Logyn Greer is 22nd in conference for blocks per game with 0.9. Versus Miami (OH), she had her first career double-double with 12 points and 12 rebounds. She also had three steals, three assists and a block.
  • Jr. G Zyanna Walker is fifth in conference for steals per game (2.3). She is also 19th in the Big 12 for assist-to-turnover ratio (1.5) and 21st for assists per game (3.2). Against the RedHawks, she had nine points, four assists, two steals and two rebounds.
  • Sr. F Anaëlle Dutat is third in conference for rebounds per game with 8.5 and 17th for steals per game with 1.9. AD had a quiet 13 points and eight rebounds against Miami Ohio, and she picked up two assists.
  • So. G Kennedy Sanders is 18th in the Big 12 for steals per game with 1.9. Sanders had three points and three assists.
  • Jr. G Desiree Wooten also had double-digit points with 10, and she had three steals and two assists.
  • As a team, the Buffs are second in the Big 12 for steals per game (11.73), third for free throw percentage (74.7%), fourth for rebounding margin (9.0), seventh for offensive rebounds per game (13.5) and seventh for scoring defense (57.0).

BEARS: The Buffs will meet the Bears for the 22nd time in program history next Tuesday. Colorado last matched up with Northern Colorado in the 2024-25 season where the Buffs defeated the Bears, 81-66. CU is 15-6 against UNCo all-time, and has won the last 12 straight.
 
#15 DUTAT: Sr. F Anäelle Dutat was born and raised in France until coming to America to play basketball at the University of Rhode Island. Dutat transferred to CU this fall and is pursuing a degree in Biomedical Engineering. In high school, one of her biggest accomplishments was being a member of the U18 France championship team twice.
 
#17 BETSON: So. F Tabitha Betson returned to the Buffs towards the end of nonconference games. After spending some much-needed time at home, Betson was on the CU bench against Miami (OH) in her first game back — coming in for seven minutes versus the RedHawks. In 2024-25, Betson was the Big 12 Preseason Freshman of the Year, and prior to her time at CU, she represented Australia in the U17 World Cup (2022). In high school, she was ranked No. 48 in ESPN’s Top 100 for the class of 2024 and she was a McDonald’s All-America nominee.
