[HOUR ONE]
-A five minute video package aired on John Cena’s retirement day with his tapout being a crescendo including Michael Cole saying, “Tonight, professional wrestling destroyed sports entertainment.” They focused on dismayed and deflated fans, including parents consoling children.
-They cut to a wide shot from above of the arena which was silent. Then Gunther’s music played and he made his entrance as fans booed. He extended his arms and smiled. He came across as not just proud, but gleeful at the fans disappointment in his accomplishment. Gunter stood on the announce desk. Tessitore looked perturbed. Gunther the entered the ring. He put his hand on his heart as fans booed him as if he was touched by their outpouring. He stood on the second rope and fans loudly chanted, “You suck!” at him.
He said he did what he said he was going to by making John Cena give up. “And when he gave up, he tapped out like a little bitch.” He dropped the mic and left after just those words. He extended his arms and soaked up with glee the continued boos. He then turned back to the ring and stood on the second rope again and soaked up more boos. Barrett said Gunther did what he set out to do, “but he didn’t just beat John Cena; he chose to humiliate John Cena and break the hearts of WWE fans around the world by making John Cena give up.” Tessitore said it is “a cascade of boos of rejection and disdain.” Barrett said it sounds better than Mozart to Gunther. Tessitore said Gunther “is bathing in the hatred.”
(Keller’s Analysis: Okay, can at least Barrett defend Gunther for winning a match fairly. He can take issue with his framing of Cena tonight as “a little bitch,” but it makes zero sense for anyone to be angry at Gunther for winning fairly.)
-Gunther crossed paths with Otis and Akira Tozawa. Otis said he must feel good rubbing people’s faces in it tonight. Gunther said, “I do!” R-Truth then stepped up to Gunther and told him, “You are a piece of trash.” Raw G.M. Adam Pearce asked if he’s proud. He said he just walked all over Cena’s legacy because he thinks he has it all figured out. “That doesn’t make you the ring general, it makes you an asshole,” Pearce said. Gunther said, “Okay, anything else?” Pearce told him to find an exit because he’s done for the night. He left and the camera followed. Nobody would have any idea Gunther would be kicked out of the arena, but sure enough there was A.J. Styles leaning on a car waiting for him. Gunther asked if he had anything he wanted to tell him. Styles just gestured for him to get in his car and leave. Gunther got in the car and lowered the window and said, “A.J., by the way.” He waved his hand in front of his face, smiled, and drove away.
(Keller’s Analysis: So we’re to believe Styles just hangs out in parking lots? Or did Pearce tip him off 30 seconds earlier he was kicking Gunther out of the building at that minute. Come on, WWE. Just try a little harder to make things feel natural and realistic and less orchestrated and scripted. Gunther was delightful there. That segment shows what the payoff is for Gunther’s win as they pivot to Styles trying to not be retired by Gunther also.)
-They showed Paul Heyman, Bronson Reed, Bron Breakker, and Logan Paul entering the arena. Then they showed Stephanie Vaquer backstage. Tessitore plugged her defense against Raquel Rodriguez later. They showerd Ivy Nile with the Creed Brothers backstage. C.M. Punk was shown walkin backstage.
-A recap aired of the Usos last week reuniting and facing off with the New Day.
-The Usos made their entrance starting in the concourse. [c]
-Another video aired for WrestleMania Vegas with the top WWE women part of a cinematic segment where they stared each other down and stared at each other.
(Keller’s Analysis: These are pretty and slickly produced, but a net negative as everyone comes across as just melodramatically making faces each other in a contrived situation. It’s just random and comes across as an idea someone had who doesn’t really value the tone of pro wrestling feeling real within the presentation of the product.)
(1) THE USOS vs. THE NEW DAY (Kofi Kingston & Xavier Woods w/Grayson Waller)
The end of New Day’s ring entrance aired. Tessitore noted they have faced each other 44 times. The bell rang 26 minutes into the hour. They cut to a very early break after Kofi slidekicked Jey off the ring apron to the floor. [c]
They cut to another break at 9:00 after an Uso bodypress off the top rope. [c]
Tessitore noted they met for the tag team title 16 times and this match is to try to position themselves for a chance at the titles. Grayson Waller interfered. The ref saw it and kicked him out of ringside, which popped the crowd. He threw a fit. The Usos delivered stereo superkicks to Kofi and Xavier. New Day took over and scored a near fall. Xavier had Jimmy covered. Jey “made the save” (which did nothing to actually break up the cover Xavier had on Jimmy; Xavier was still covering him so the ref needlessly stopped his count; Jimmy didn’t bother to lift his shoulder after the save, but Jimmy did adjust his shirt to keep his belly from showing, so there is that).
The Usos rallied next and landed a 1D on Xavier for the win. Barrett called it, “Another banger from these two GOAT tag teams.”
WINNERS: The Usos in 17:00.
-They went to Tessitore and Barrett at ringside. Tessitore said he and Michael Cole were excellent on Saturday Night’s Main Event, but it was now time to pivot to Raw’s one-year anniversary on Netflix. They plugged Punk vs. Bron Breakker for the World Title and Rhea Ripley & Iyo Sky vs. The Kabuki Warriors.
-A vignette aired on the Kabuki Warriors saga with Ripley and Iyo over the months. [c]
-Tessitore got in some plugs.
-A vignette aired on the masked mystery man, Logan Paul, L.A. Knight, and Rey Mysterio in an angle last week including the beatdown in the parking garage at the end.
-Logan told Bronson he was impressed with what he did to Knight last week. Bron Breakker, standing behind them, said Knight is gone and C.M. Punk is there, so they should destroy him. Logan said maybe the masked man shows up. Heyman asked who he just brought up. Logan said the masked man. He wondered who it is. Heyman said, “I don’t know and honestly at this point I’ll take the help.” He said all of Knight’s friends are out to get them. He said if the masked man is aligned with then, all the better. Breakker pulled Heyman aside and said if he sees Punk, he’s taking him out. Heyman told him not to. Heyman said they need Punk ready in 21 days on Jan. 5. Breakker knew how many hours that. Heyman said, “That’s a bit obsessive.” He told him to be patient and beat Punk and become World Champion. Logan went up to Breakker and said they should lock in since he’s facing Rey tonight. “Help me lock in,” he said. Breakker said he would.
-They went to Tessitore and Barrett at ringside. Tessitore said season two of “WWE Unreal” debuts on Jan. 20. Barrett said Knight suffered a cracked sternum which will put Knight on the shelf indefinitely. Tessitore said Punk is back from the injury he suffered at WarGames and he’d join them later.
-Iyo and Ripley made their entrance to their own music. Asuka appeared in the front row and sprayed Ripley in the face with mist. Kairi Sane then flew at Sky and knocked he down. Asuka kicked her. In the ring, Sky protected Ripley from a top rope Insane Elbow and absorbed the impact herself. Asuka and Kairi returned to the back as referees checked on Ripley’s eyes as she cried out in agony.
[HOUR TWO]
[c] -Barrett commented on a replay of the previous angle.
(2) MAXXINE DUPRI vs. IVY NILE – WWE Intercontinental Title match
After formal ring introductions, Tessitore noted that Dupri got her nameplates on the belt. He said Becky reacted by calling it “an abomination” and said the belt should say “cheater and fraud.” The bell rang 6 minutes into the hour. Nile kicked Dupri to the floor after breaking her attempt at a hanging armlock. Nile struck a pose at ringside as they cut to break at 2:00. [c]
Tessitore sometimes wrestlers gain confidence when they hold a title and this appears to be a different version of Dupri. Dupri rallied after the break and kipped up. She licked her lips confidently and then landed a snap fisherman’s suplex for a near fall at 6:00. Nile powerbombed Dupri for a near fall. Dupri, while hanging upside down in the corner, tossed Nile to the mat. She then sat up and leaped off the top rope. Nile moved and then schoolboyed Dupri for a two count. Durpi applied a standing anklelock. Nile escaped. Dupri went back at it. Nile kicked out of it. She hit a reverse hook kick and then reapplied the ankle lock and got a tapout win. Tessitore underlined, “She’s different; she’s just different right now.”
WINNER: Dupri in 10:00 to retain the IC Title.
(Keller’s Analysis: Dupri is endearingly coming across as more confident and her ring work backs up her seeming more competent and tough. Tessitore’s hard-selling of how different she looks is a bit much. The main complaint I have with Tessitore is that when it’s time to hard sell something and really emphasize a point, he comes at it too hard and it feels like he’s strong-arming viewers to feel a certain way or feels fans are too dense to pick up on his point unless he uses all caps.)
-A vignette aired on the NXT wrestlers showcased on Saturday Night’s Main Event.
-Backstage, Pearce congratulated Je’Von for a strong performance. El Grande Americano showed up with Rayo and Bravo. He bad mouthed and condescended Je’Von. It led to Pearce booking Je’Von vs. Rayo next week.
-Tessitore plugged that Punk was up next. [c]
-Punk made his ring entrance. Fans loudly chanted “C.M. Punk!” as he scowled. Punk said he was forced to two consecutive Rawsbecause people smarter than him prohibited him from competing or flying. Punk called Breakker a “cross-eyed neanderthal nepobaby.” He said he knows brains don’t exactly run in his family, but he didn’t understand him complaining about him trying to end his career in War Games. “You didn’t sign up for board games; you signed up for war, son,” he said.
He said Breakker said he wants to face 2011 Punk, but he can’t handle 2025 Punk without help form his from his friends. He brought up Brock Lesnar, Reed, Drew McIntyre, and the mystery masked wrestler. He said pinning him did put him in line for a title shot, “but you didn’t do it alone, did you?” he said.
He said Heyman has gassed up wrestlers who wilted under pressure from the bright lights. He said he’s stopped many supposed blue chipper future main eventers. He said if he mentions his wife’s name again, he’ll rips his eyes out and piss on his single-digit IQ brain. Fans chanted “C.M. Punk!” He told Breakker to bring his dumb father Rick and his even dumber brother Scott to Brooklyn because he’d need all hands on deck to stand a chance to beat him for the title. He said when he wins, Breakker will ve stuck doing TikToks with the YouTube scammer. He said all that he’ll have left is Dumb and Dumber, his father and brother, and even Steiner match can figure out that GTS equals 1-2-3. Punk circled the ring to his music.
(Keller’s Analysis: That was one of Punk’s more focused and impressive promos in this stint in WWE.)
-Dominik Mysterio told Liv Morgan and Roxanne Perez that he hopes The Vision puts an end to his deadbeat dad and they’ll have a great Christmas. Dom said Finn Balor is with J.D. McDonagh and J.D. is going to be on the shelf for a while. Raquel said she wants to handle Vaquer on her own. Liv said she can’t wait to see her win. Perez said she’ll take care of Bayley next week. Raquel told Liv that she’s so glad she’s back and Judgment Day runs Raw.
-Stephanie Vaquer made her ring entrance. [c]
(3) STEPHANIE VAQUER vs. RAQUEL RODRIGUEZ – Women’s World Title match
The bell rang 38 minutes into the hour. Barrett said Raquel dropped of the radar for a while, but she’s 2025’s most improved wrestler. They cut to an early break a minute in. [c]
Rodriguez stopped Vaquer’s rally with a clothesline. There wasn’t much crowd heat for this. Vaquer head scissored Raquel over the top rope to escape an armbar. Raquel then lifted Vaquer, but Vaquer slipped free and shoved Raquel into the ringpost. Nikki Bella showed up and attacked Perez.
WINNER: No contest in 9:00 to Vaquer retained the IC Title.
-Nikki gave Raquel a Rack Attack 2.0. Her music played as she paced in the ring. Barrett said Nikki has been at the top several times before and might again soon. Nikki said, “Respect the vet.”
-Pearce asked Heyman who is under the mask. Heyman said Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, Nick Aldis, and Bruno Sammartino. He said he doesn’t know, but he’s okay as long as it aligned with their vision. He said that doesn’t make to him guilty, it just means it’s convenient. He said he had to go get Logan ready. He left. Ripley walked in and demanded a mask with Asuka. Pearce offered her a match next week. She took it.
-Rey Mysterio was walking backstage when Punk approached him. He said he’d have his back tonight. Rey expressed appreciation. [c]
-Backstage, Jackie Redmond interviewed Styles & Dragon Lee. They said they’re ready to defend their titles. Dragon Lee said they’re going to bring the fire. Nikki then said she did what she did out there and she’s not sorry for putting people who are beneath her in their place. She said she is tired of the current women not appreciating the path she paved for them. She said Raquel and Vaquer should be shining her boots.
-They went to Barrett and Tessitore at ringside. They plugged next week’s Raw: Bayley vs. Perez, Je’Von Evans vs. Rayo Americano, and Ripley vs. Asuka.
-Another vignette aired with the cinematic WrestleMania Vegas theme, this focused on Liv Morgan.
-Bayley enthusiastically told Dupri she did a great job earlier. Lyra Valkyria walked in and asked Bayley how she’s doing. Bayley said losing to someone with so much less experience made her wonder if things Asuka was saying about her might be true. Valkyria told her one loss shouldn’t affect her that much, so maybe she is an idiot. Bayley shoved her and yelled that she will destroy Perez next week. She told Valkyria she is an idiot. Bayley stormed off. Valkyria smiled and said, “There she is.”
-Rey Mysterio made his entrance.
[HOUR THREE]
[c]
(4) REY MYSTERIO vs. LOGAN PAUL (w/Paul Heyman)
Logan’s entrance aired. The bell rang 3 minutes into the hour. Logan took control and whipped Rey with is belt. Barrett said the legality of that is questionable and he’s risking disqualification. Logan punched away at Rey in the corner. Rey took control after lifting his knees on a Logan springboard moonsault and then gave Logan a West Coast Pop at ringside. They cut to a break at 4:00. [c]
Rey had Logan down at ringside. Breakker and Reed came out. Punk made the save with a chair, sending Breakker and Reed away. After Logan blocked a huracanrana, Logan crawled over and asked Heyman for brass knuckles “just in case.” Rey tripped Logan and hit a 619. Rey saw the brass knuckles. The man in the mask stomped on Rey on the ring apron. “Who the hell is this guy?” Barrett asked. Logan then landed a frog splash off the top rope.
WINNER: Logan in 15:00.
-The masked man stood on the ring apron and eyed Logan. Tessitore said he doesn’t know what to make of the masked mystery man. Punk ran out with a chair in hand. Logan bailed out to ringside. The man in the mask took off his hood and revealed he is Austin Theory with a new haircut. “What the hell?” gasped Barrett. Breakker then snuck in the ring and speared Punk. Breakker looked up at Theory who was standing on the stairs in the stands. Breakker kneeled down to Punk and said, “You’re right, this is business, but if you ever talk about my family like that again, you’ll never stand on your two feet again.” Tessitore said The Vision now seems more dangerous than ever.
(Keller’s Analysis: I didn’t like Tessitore and Barrett not speculating on what Theory’s motivations were or any context of who he is and where he’s been.)
